Resume Tips, Tricks, and Suggestions
For technology staffing careers, your résumé may very well be one of the most important documents you craft during your career. It represents not only your skills and interests but showcases your ability to communicate effectively. Here are some pointers to help you build a stronger, more effective résumé.
Formatting and grammar
Your résumé should be professionally formatted. The current style is a combination of paragraphs and bullet points. Paragraphs help to flesh out information and provide a fuller picture while the bullet points make it easier for the hiring manager to review. That said, use paragraphs sparingly (we’ll talk about including an “objective” or “summary” at the beginning of your résumé shortly) and keep your bullet points relevant. You should also have flawless grammar and spelling on your résumé. Typos or inconsistent formatting are red flags to hiring managers. You can work with your recruiter or career coach to format and proofread your résumé.
Did what? With what? For what?
For each job you include on your résumé, answer the following questions: Did what? With what? For what? This covers all the bases a hiring manager would be interested in: what you did, the tools you used, and your objective. It’s always a good idea to highlight your contributions within a greater framework to showcase your ability to contribute to the company and work in a team environment.
